(*) Incidentally this last Saturday I saw the place where Heitor Villa-Lobos lived in Paris  from 1923-1930. It's just around the corner (on your right) from the St.Michel fountain! Proof:

      1. Hi--Do you know if Paris Opera does standbys on the day of the performance, like at Covent garden? (Or alternatively, any way of seeing that sold-out Walkure first night). I'm a student if that helps----Thanks so much. Max

      2. Hi Max,

Yes they do have the sbys. It's a pool of about 70-80 places and they cost only 5 euros each --> you imagine the line of people...
You should come at least at 1-2 pm to hope to get one.

The line is formed in front of the ENTRANCE to the Bastille Opera (NOT the box office!) They open the doors 1 hour before the show and each person can buy no more than 2 tics. That's why it's OK to share the waiting time with someone (if you come with someone, it's obvious what to do -- if you come alone ASK someone in the line to share the waiting time.)

        Good luck!
        cheers
