2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2012-2013 in Switzerland

The largest and the most significant opera-house in Switzerland is the one in Zurich, followed by the Grand Theater in Geneva. Both theaters already announced the new productions scheduled for 2010-2011. A pretty little Opera in Lausanne did the same.

If you're interested in more audacious theaters then you'd be more curious about 2010-2011 in Basel and in Freiburg. We just learned that the Theater Freiburg will unveil the details about their new season on May 6. When Basel will say something about their next season is anyone's guess...

In the following (if you dive into "Read more") you can find the links and a list of new productions in these fine Swiss Opera Houses.

Ed: the details on 2010-2011 at  Theater Basel will be made public on April 29

Die Lustige Witwe [dir Christof Loy] with José Van Dam, Annette Dasch and Jennifer Larmore

I thought José Van Dam was retiring after the La Monnaie performance?!

  2. Why question mark Stuart Skelton? He has already sung a prize winning Grimes at ENO and is due to sing Parsifal there next season with Irene Theorin as Kundry. I heard him as a excellent Parsifal in Frankfurt 3 years ago and he has a MET debut coming up.

Yvonne Naef is rightly going back to the mezzo fach after her flirtation with soprano roles.

Zurich is one of my favourite houses particulary for the off beat repertory. Tiefland and Konigskinder for example.

  3. José Van Dam is saying goodbye to the operatic scenes in his native Belgium. On the other hand it's hard to resist the temptation of collecting the appearance fees elsewhere.

Hi John! Many thanks for your comment on Skelton. Never listened to Skelton but am more than curious to know what his Parsifal will sound like (thus the q-mark). Will definitely come to ENO to see Parsifal. ;)

You liked Tiefland? I only saw it on DVD and ... how should I put it?!... it didn't work for me at all.
