          1. Is P. Jarousky "Artist-in-Residence" at TCE in December? :)

          2. Another expedition in view to see Ariadne auf Naxos to hear the prestigious cast in this "remake" of the 2003 edition - the sets and the costumes will be the same. Mr Jordan will be in command of the baton, and I hope that all the artists will generously contradict the sayings I read from one acrimonious "wag" who wrote recently in "Le Monde" that Premières at the Bastille frequently attracted vociferous objections "à la Scala". My attention will be focused on all the cast, but especially on Harlekin, played by Edwin Crossley-Mercer.

          3. Anon-1:Jaroussky is a very fine singer but this over-exposure is becoming too much and I wonder if the effect on the crowd might be contrary to what the organizers want...

Anon-2: I'm not sure this production of Ariadne is comparable to those by Carsen, or Guth, but it is very good anyway. The cast is just fantastic. The only potential problem is that Bastille is too large a venue for this opera.

          4. Go for Andreas Scholl - he is very cool at the moment!

          5. Unfortunately I won't be in Paris around that particular weekend. Some other time.

          6. Right, go see him in Hannover then :). I will.
I also saw Calleja in Regensburg - a wonderfully entertaining evening. A concert with 5 encores for 20 Euros - what a deal!

          7. Ariadne, which I have yet to see, has already been put on at Bastille. Was the size a problem then? And, I have been trying to find reviews describing the reception the opera got on the last two occasions. The stage setting may not be to everyone's liking, but if the cast can pull the vocal part off, I shall be most pleased.

          8. The size is always a problem for this opera. Bastille is just too large for impact this opera can make on you.

I saw this production on Mezzo-TV. The show was all about Natalie Dessay who in 2003 was at her best and sang one of the all time best "Grossmächtige Prinzessin".

It is a pleasant show and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Merbeth should be brilliant as Ariadne, and it will be interesting to see ECM singing loud to fill up a large hall at Bastille.

I'll try and go to see the premiere -- and will blog before you come to Paris ;)
            Cheers

          9. Many thanks for offering to forward me information after the Première. I too shall be targeting all my attention on ECM, hoping too that the Naxos island hotel, complete that the cement mixer and a equally cement spiral staircase in one scene will not detract from the amusement. Often I have wondered about how the singers make the shift mentally between their indispensable personal involvement in their vocal tasks when surrounded by the discrepancy of an excessively modern staging. I must ask ECM if I can manage an interview or an autograph after the opera.

          10. The Dress Rehearsal went a treat on the 9th December, and if my back-stage information is correct, Miss Koch is in fine fettle; ECM is doing a superb job along with the rest of the cast. Let's hear what the public has to say in the way of applause.
