Novembre musical à Paris


My selection of events (classical music and opera) to see this November 2010 in Paris.

Salle Pleyel

  • Tue 2: New York Philharmonic lead by Alan Gilbert. Program: Strauss, Wagner and Brahms
  • Wed 3: ONC Toulouse conducted by Tugan Sokhiev, with Nicholas Angelich on piano. Program: Rachmaninov, Ravel/Mussorgsky 
  • Thu 4: Orchestre de Paris; Paavo Järvi conducting and Elisabeth Leonskaya on piano. Program: creation of "Silhouette" by Arvo Pärt, Grieg, Sibelius' #2 
  • Fri 5: Bryn Terfel and his "Bad Boys" recital, accompanied by the Münchner Rundfunkorchester and with Gareth Jones conducting. 
  • Sat 6: Modern/Contemporary music freaks will have their share of Schönberg and Montovani. Ensemble modern Orchestra conducted by a great Peter Eötvös 
  • Sun 7: Orchestre de Paris and Elisabeth Leonskaya will perform the works by E. Grieg 
  • Tue 9: Yund Li -- piano recital: extra-talent zone!!! 
  • Fri 12: SWR Sinfonieorchester conducted by Sylvain Cambreling will make you discover a work composed by Helmut Lachenmann, in addition to the Bruckner's Third.  
  • Sun 14: London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Colin Davis and with Nikolaj Znaider (violin). Program: Mendelssohn Symph. #3, and a violin concerto by Brahms 
  • Wed 24 and Thu 25: Orchestre de Paris conducted by J-C. Spinosi, with Maria-João Pires on piano, plus a cool group of singers for two evenings with Haydn and Mozart 
  • Fri 26: Kammerorchesterbasel lead by Paul McCreesh will accompany Angelika Kirchschlager. Program: Schubert, Brahms 
  • Sat 27: Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France conducted by Alan Gilbert to perform my favorite piece by Arnold Schönberg: Pelléas et Mélisande, plus the lieder by Zemlinsky sung by Yvonne Naef 
  • Tue 30: Porpora, Vivaldi and Pergolesi by The English Concert conducted by Harry Bicket, and with Anna Caterina Antonacci and Sara Mingardo


      Théatre des Champs-Elysées

      • Wed 3, Fri 5, Sun 7, Tue 9: New production of Orlando by Handel [dir-David McVicar, cnd- Emmanuelle Haïm] with a priori a very good cast: Sonia Prina, Lucy Crowe, Henriette Bonde-Hansen, Nathan Berg, and Stephen Wallace 
      • Thu 4: Hagen Quartet to perform music by Janacek, Haydn and Schubert 
      • Mon 8, Fri 12: ¡Mexico! -- Rolando Villazon and Bolivar Soloists  
      • Thu 11: Otello by Rossini in concert conducted by Evelino Pido and with the cast: John Osborn, Anna-Caterina Antonacci, Dmitry Korchak, Marco Vinco, Jose Manuel Zapata et al.  
      • Sat 13: London Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski to perform Beethoven's Symph.#3, and with Julia Fischer a Violin Concerto by Shostakovich
      • Thu 18: Marie-Nicole Lemieux - recital of arias from the French opera
      • Tue 23: Wiener Philharmoniker and Christian Thielemann perform all the Symphonies by Beethoven: #4 & #5
      • Wed 24: Wiener Philharmoniker and Christian Thielemann perform all the Symphonies by Beethoven: #6 & #7
      • Thu 25: Kristjan Järvi will conduct Orchestre Natonal de France. Progr: Adams, Stravinsky and Rachmaninov
      • Fri 26: Hélène Grimaud - recital (Mozart, Berg, Liszt, Bartók) 
      • Sat 27: Wiener Philharmoniker and Christian Thielemann perform all the Symphonies by Beethoven: #1, #2 & #3 
      • Sun 28: Wiener Philharmoniker and Christian Thielemann perform all the Symphonies by Beethoven: #8, #9

        • Mon 1: Valery Gergiev will lead the Mariinsky Orchestra in a performance of The little hump-backed horse by Rodion Shchedrin [opera-ballet -- all Mariinsky cast]

          • Mon 8: Guy Braunstein, Michael Barenboim (violin) and Karim Saïd (piano) conducted by Daniel Barenboim will perform pieces by Stravinsky and Berg (with Patrice Chéreau narrating) 
          • Tue 9: Variation on the Wesendonck Lieder staged by Patrice Chéreau and with Waltraud Meier singing
          •  Wed 24: Elisabeth Leonskaya - recital of selected sonatas by Beethoven

          • Tue 30: Malin Christenson (announced as a new talent) will sing the songs by Brahms, Strauss, and Wolff, with Simon Lepper on piano

          OK, this time no pic from Paris but a few from Amsterdam since they are well in sync with the autumnal mood in November:

          This is the place where you can find the best Flemish fries. It's called Manneken Pis and yes - it means what you think it means ;) .... Only, it refers to this statue 

          This one is simply a pretty photo of the autumn spreading in Amsterdam
