Below you can find my selection of events (classical music and opera) to see in Paris this September.



Salle Pleyel

  • Wed 8: Mariinsky Theater Orchestra and Singers, with Valery Gergiev conducting, Mahler's 8th
  • Fri 10: Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France conducted by François-Xavier Roth (Nathalie Stutzmann, soloist) will perform the works by Brahms, Schumann. and Zemlinsky
  • Wed 15 & Thu 16: New director of the Orchestre de Paris Paavo Järvi makes his debut with 2 works, one by Paul Dukas and another by Jean Sibelius. Soile Isokoski and Juha Uusitalo to sing
  • Sat 18: Awesome Boris Berezovsky is back to perform Medtner (?), Rachmaninov, and  Tchaikovsky
  • Wed 22 & Thu 24: Susan Graham and Orchestre de Paris lead by Bertrand de Billy -- songs by Webern and Chausson
  • Mon 27: René Jacobs and his Freiburger Barockorchester come for their wonderful yearly concert in Paris. This time it will be Così fan tutte, with the cast:  Alexandrina Pendatchanska, Marie-Claude Chappuis, Sunhae Im, Johannes Weisser, Marcos Fink and Johannes Weisser
  • Tue 28: L'Enfance du Christ, by Accentus and the soloists: Vesselina Kasarova, Paul Groves, Laurent Naouri, Patrick Marco, and a brilliant conductor Laurence Equilbey
  • Wed 29 & Thu 30: Orchestre de Paris, and Martin Helmchen on piano, will all be conducted by Christoph von Dohnányi in a performance of works by Widmann, Dvorák, and Beethoven (Symph.#3)

Théatre des Champs-Elysées
  • Sat 11: Maria João Pires - Beethoven night!
  • Sun 12: Orchestre Philharmonique de Rotterdam conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin : Mahler's Symph. #2, that I love the most. Soloists: Ekaterina Gubanova and Kate Royal
  • Mon 13: Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle conducted by Andrea Lucchesini. Wow-Cast: Désirée Rancatore, Anna Bonitatibus, Antonino Siragusa, Michele Pertusi + Chorus of the Accademia Santa Cecilia
  • Tue 14 & Wed 15: Yo Yo Ma performs the works by Bach
  • Thu 16: Orchestre National de France lead by its artistic director, Maestro Daniele Gatti, to perform Schuman's Symph.#3 and the excerpts from Die Götterdämmerung
  • Mon 20: David Fray, hopefully for one of his cool performances...
  • Wed 22: Recital, Joyce DiDonato [now, after June, we have Joyce back to TCE in September -- Are we being spoiled?! Like, really spoiled?! :)]
  • Thu 23: Orchestre Philharmonique de Rotterdam conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin : Bruckner's Symph. #7. Renaud Capuçon will join them too...

    Théâtre du Châtelet

    • Thu 23: The Mahler cycle continues: Daniele Gatti and his Orchestre National de France will perform Kindertotenlieder and Symph # 5, with Matthias Goerne singing


    Opéra national de Paris - Opéra Bastille

    •  Thu 9, Tue 14, Tue 21, Fri 24, Mon 27, Thu 30: Der fliegende Höllander [dir Willy Decker, cond Peter Schneider] Cast: Matti Salminen, Klaus Florian Vogt, Adrianne Pieczonka, James Morris, Bernard Richter, Maria-Ange Todorovitch
    • Fri 17, Mon 20, Thu 23, Sun 26, Wed 29: Eugene Onegin [dir Willy Decker, cond Vasily Petrenko] Cast: Olga Guryakova, Ludovic Tézier, Joseph Kaiser, Nadine Denize, Alisa Kolosova, Gleb Nikolski, Jean-Paul Fouchécourt, Ugo Rabec

    Opéra national de Paris - Palais Garnier


    Cité de la Musique
    • Wed 22: Jordi Savaal and his Hespèrion XXI La Capella Reial de Catalunya, to perform the Songs from Sibylle, Majorque. Check out the cast which includes Montserrat Figueras
    • Thu 23: Orchestra of The Sixteen conducted by Harry Christophers will perform Messiah by Handel with the soloists: Rosemary Joshua, Catherine Wyn-Rogers, James Gilchrist, and David Wilson Johnson
    • Sat 25: Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Michail Tabachnik and always good Torsten Kerl for an assorted program of excerpts from Wagner's operas (!!!)
    • Wed 29: Maria-João Pires, Lorenza Borrani and Chamber Orchestra of Europe, conducted by Trevor Pinnock for an evening with Mendelsohn, Mozart, and Schubert

    Musée du Louvre
    • Wed 22: Quartet of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra


    Musée d'Orsay
    • Tue 28:  Excellent pianists Yaara Tal and Andreas Groethuysen to make you love Bach
