New opera productions in Europe - September 2010

There is quite a number of new productions to be presented in Europe during September, of which I expect the most from the following four:

  • Aida at Theater Basel [dir Calixto Bieito, cnd Maurizio Barbacini] - Sept 14
  • Semele at Theater and der Wien [dir Robert Carsen, cnd William Christie] - Sept 15
  • Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at Komische Oper Berlin [dir Andreas Homoki, cnd Patrick Lange] - Sept 25
  • Carmen at Liceu Barcelona [dir Calixto Bieito, cnd Marc Piolet] - Sept 27
  • Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny at Teatro Real Madrid [dir La Fura dels Baus, cnd Pablo Heras-Casado] - Sept 30

Other potentially exciting new productions...

  • Les vêpres siciliennes at DNO Amsterdam [dir Christof Loy, cnd Paolo Carignani] - Sept 10
  • Faust at ENO London [dir Des McAnuff, cnd Edward Gardner] - Sept 18
  • Love and Other Demons at ONR Strasbourg [dir Silviu Purcarete, cnd Peter Eötvös] - Sept 25
  • Montezuma at Teatro Real Madrid [dir Claudio Valdés Kuri, cnd Gabriel Garrido] - Sept 15
  • Nabucco at DKT Copenhagen [dir Elisabeth Linton, cnd Pier Giorgio Morandi] - Sept 26
  • Les pêcheurs de perles at Opernhaus Zürich [dir Jens-Daniel Herzog, cnd Carlo Rizzi] - Sept 18
  • Luisa Miller at Staatsoper Stuttgart  [dir Markus Dietz, cnd Thomas Søndergård] - Sept 26
  • Die Frau ohne Schatten at Oper Graz [dir Marco Arturo Marelli, cnd Johannes Fritzsch] - Sept 25
  • L'amour de loin at Vlaamse Opera Antwerpen [dir Daniele Finzi Pasca, cnd Koen Kessels] - Sept 18
  • Rusalka at ONL Nancy [dir Jim Lucassen, cnd Christian Arming] - Sept 30
  • Carmen at ON Bordeaux [dir Laurent Laffargue, cnd Cristian Orosanu] - Sept 24
  • Rigoletto at La Fenice Venice [dir  Daniele Abbado, cnd Myung-Whun Chung] - Sept 25

    1. I might add:

L'Incoronazione di Poppea at Opera Oviedo [dir Emilio Sagi, cnd Kenneth Weiss] (with Max Emanuel Cencic, Sabina Puertolas, Christianne Stotijn, Xavier Sabara and Elena de la Merced, the production moves in October to Bilbao).

The Carsen Semele is far from new: it's been done in Aix-en-Provence, the ENO and Zurich and premiered more than ten years ago.

    2. Thanks for the note. I was told Carsen was completely redoing Semele, which is why I've put it with "new productions".
That Incoronazione must be very good! Do keep us posted. Cheers :)
