Werther, I Capuleti, Gergiev, Tristan - for your eyes only...

The live broadcast of Werther from the Paris Opera last night was OK, although I must say that you lose quite a bit of atmosphere and musical quality wrt what you experience in the theater. If you missed it last night, you can still see it on Arte Live Web, where the video recording will be available for 60 days, and it's free.
On the same site you can also find the video of the last week concert of Prazák --a brilliant Czech string quartet-- recorded in Cité de la Musique.

3 more infos...

1. For all belcanto fans, a live broadcast of the Bellini's opera I Capuleti e I Montecchi, from the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège is scheduled for coming Tuesday, February 2, at 8 pm (CET). Patrizia Ciofi will be singing the role of Giulietta in the new production directed by Cristina Muti (yes, Riccardo's wife). Notice that it is not free.  OperaLive will charge 4€ per viewing.

2. This Friday, January 29, at 8 pm (CET), the Pleyel website will let you see the live performance of Tchaikovsky's Symphonies #3 and #6 by The Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra. It's the year of France-Russia cultural exchange, and you get the best of Valery Gergiev for free ;)

3. Wagnerofiles will certainly appreciate the live RADIO broadcast from Liceu of Tristan und Isolde tonight [January 27] at 7 pm (CET). OK this will be for your ears only... Enjoy!

  2. Hey cloudintrousers - welcome :)

I too wish it was Ian, but I am OK with Seiffert too. On the other hand, I'd rather listen to Isolde by Jennifer Wilson than Debbie Voigt. OK, we won't complain. It's free, it's live, and it's Tristan :)

  3. Peter Seiffert suffered through Act 2, started well in Act 3 and then a vocal meltdown - his voice started wobbling in all registers, and cracked a good dozen of times. Meanwhile the prompter is not whispering him the text - he's shouting ;)

Naah, this is getting embarrassing. Tristan is indeed too big a role for Seiffert.

  4. Yes, it was pretty hard to listen to!

Thanks for posting the Werther reviews: I saw it last Saturday and wholeheartedly agree it is a very special production (assuming the Act 4 zoom effect of the room was glich-free for you! Will watch it again on Arte to get the proper effect...)
