This and that... Sticky and Sweet

  • Right now live from La Scala --on  medici.tv -- a concert of Filarmonica della Scala with Daniel Harding conducting [Dellapiccola and Strauss.] Video will be available for free viewing 30- days after the concert date
  • Tickets for Parsifal in Basel are already on sale. This new production, directed by the super-talented Benedikt von Peter will open on April 3rd and will run until late June. Here is your link
  • Before that one another big Parsifal is to be premiered at La Monnaie/De Munt this month. Check out Andrew Richards' blog updates about this production creating process.
  • When in London:  (1) Recital by Juan Diego Florez --excellent program!-- on January 20 at the Royal Festival Hall; (2) New production of Lucrezia Borgia will be live broadcast in 3D on February 23: you need a 3D-TV (?), or to see the show in one of ~20 cinemas in the UK, or... errrr... to actually go and see the show at ENO; (3) A Service for Dame Joan Sutherland will be held at Westminster Abbey on February 15 at noon;
  • For those of you who cannot get a free seat at Opéra Garnier in Paris for Giulio Cesare, there will be live broadcast of the show on February 7 @ 7pm in 15 cinemas in France [apparently some cinemas in Spain, Switzerland... will also broadcast this show --> check out in your or the city near you]
  • I was at Pleyel last Friday to see maestro Manfred Honeck conducting OPRF. Video stream of that [enjoyable] concert is available on Arte Live Web (c.f. here)
  • Note also that next Saturday, January 15, at 8pm (cet) another concert from Pleyel will be live webcast on this link: Paavo Järvi and Orchestre de Paris will accompany Janine Jansen in a performance of Britten's Violin Concerto
  • I am not sure what to make out of this interview in Berliner Morgenpost with Christian Thielemann - I'm still chuckling: he's fascinated by Madonna not only musically but would also like to get to know her better in person... and listens to her Sticky & Sweet  in his Porche. My head is spinning...
  • DVD alerts: (1) Medea by Aribert Reimann directed by Marco Arturo Marelli, (2) Don Carlos directed by Peter Konwitschny, (3) Admeto directed by Doris Dörrie.
  • DVD to be released during the next few months: Les Troyens directed by La Fura dels Baus (filmed in Valencia); Tannhäuser directed by Kasper Holten (Danish Royal Opera); (3) Elektra directed by Nikolaus Lehnhoff (Salzburg Festival); Moscow Cheryomushki by Shostakovich directed by Dechamps/Makeïeff; Die Walküre with Thielemann conducting - production Tankred Dorst (Bayreuth Festival), Sigismondo directed by Damiano Michieletto (Rossini Opera Festival), and good news for those who loved the ROH Traviata directed by Richard Eyre (trailer is already up)
