Meanwhile, back the the Paris opera...
ReplyDeleteSorry, that should have read "back at..."
ReplyDeleteI never said I would not go see the shows given at the Paris Opera. I only said I would not go and see everything presented there - especially the shows produced by lazy directors. There were some good shows during the current season of which Kabanova and Giulio Cesare (but also Siegfried!) were very good. I loved the conducting in Eugene Onegin, and Der fliegende Holländer was excellent.
ReplyDeleteBut the dumb type of shows --such as Il Trittico, Francesca da Rimini, Luisa Miller... Le Nozze di Figaro-- seem to dominate the 2011-2012 program and I decided not to renew my subscription. Having said that I will of course go and see 3-4 shows at Bastille next year: if you compare 3-4 to more than 30 visits per year, that will be quite a big change for me. But there are other places in France and in Europe, so...
I go to Brussels at least 3 times/season too. In Berlin I follow everything, plus Munich, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Madrid, London...
I just have to avoid lazy productions, and I'll be good.;)
bellissimo post !:)
ReplyDeletePaul Curran's sensational production of The Tsar's Bride at the ROH, Covent Garden was a thrilling event. The whole production team are to be congratulated on a very good job well done. The cheering when they came on for their curtain call was most moving, the amphitheatre went mad, as Curran and his team made sure most of the action could be seen from as many places in the house as possible, including the upper slips. Would that other directors realised how important this is at Covent Garden.
