Marelli set it in a glittering Habsurg world on the point of dissolution, full of dreamlike imagery from Freud and Jung but finally rooted in Barak's proletarian world.

No wonder Marion Ammann impressed you. Someone who sings Fiordiligi and Isolde is just what you need for the Kaiserin.

Remarkably high standard in the fine Belle Epoque Antwerp house and at a third of London and Paris prices.

Get very excited at the prospect of Les Huguenots as a quick google of French and German press saw Sensation and Triumph as headlines.Vecchio Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06667687814424223347noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2949086046279498177.post-75698095241018156042011-06-12T13:20:30.561+02:002011-06-12T13:20:30.561+02:00Nigel, that would be horrific! Apparently this production of Les Huguenots (O.Py) is brilliant [someone reliable, who was at the final dress reh, said so]

VERY sorry John to hear Boccanegra was awful. London and Paris are apparently doomed as far as great opera shows are concerned :(

It's been very busy here -- didn't have time to write about Le Crépuscule, but will try and do it today.

I'm off to Lyon tomorrow: Tristan rulz ;) I plan to go to Zurich for Parsifal later in June (have to double check the date). Mid-July I hope to see some shows in Berlin.

Did you go to Vlaamse/Antwerp to see FrOSch?Opera Cakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08940773671378765685noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2949086046279498177.post-71127327788360010722011-06-12T11:36:32.217+02:002011-06-12T11:36:32.217+02:00I will be in Lyon next Sunday for Tristan, and in ...I will be in Lyon next Sunday for Tristan, and in Zürich on the 10th July for Parsifal.

I have just booked for Parsifal in Lyon next March, to get a preview of the new MET production.

What are your thoughts on Le Crepuscule des Dieux?
The Boccanegra at ENO is a major disappointment.I don't think Tcherniakov was really engaged in the project.Maybe it is a language thing as apparently he rehearses in Russian through a translator.I posted a few comments on Inter- Mezzo.Vecchio Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06667687814424223347noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2949086046279498177.post-27112729616930957932011-06-09T23:07:22.589+02:002011-06-09T23:07:22.589+02:00I will see Les Huguenots. Imagine Les Huguenots with weak singers...NPW-Parishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06314486898336205068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2949086046279498177.post-18714738019776222112011-06-04T19:13:41.371+02:002011-06-04T19:13:41.371+02:00Hey John! There will be live broadcast of Arianne ...Hey John! There will be live broadcast of Arianne from Liceu, so I decided to skip it. I will of course go to Brussels to see Les Huguenots but only for the first (HUGE) cast [although I regret not to be able to listen to Osborn's take on the toughy role of Raoul] I too will go to Zurich and Lyon :)
I toyed with the idea of going to see La Damnation but when I saw the Nazi references I backed out. Nazis AGAIN -- really?! I plan to see Boccanegra tho ;) I only hope it doesn't get ruined in translation. Why does ENO stick to that rule? We're in the 21st century - hello! I did go to see Don Giovanni last year and it sounded awkward (which is why I didn't want to go and see Parsifal). It's like those weird salty meals with bananas. I guess it depends on the opera -- Don Giovanni in English was impossible to adjust to. Onstead, The Magic Flute of Maria Stuarda sounded briliant in English!

Nigel, I saw the premiere of Le Crépuscule and it's not as good as the three previous Ring operas but it's still Twilight, the singers are good, the orchestra excellent -- so it definitely is worth the (steep) ticket price. But you'll see Les Huguenots, no!?Opera Cakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08940773671378765685noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2949086046279498177.post-28690413182753873612011-06-03T20:09:56.773+02:002011-06-03T20:09:56.773+02:00I'll miss Twilight.
