Busy Herheim - Lulu arrives to Copenhagen

Stefan Herheim --one of my absolute fave directors!-- is busy preparing the premiere of his Lulu in Copenhagen, which is supposed to be the operatic event in Europe this October. This will also be the first ever production of Lulu in Denmark.

8 shows series at the Danish Royal Opera opens next Friday, October 15, and Yours Truly will hopefully be there. ;)

After Copenhagen the same production [but with different cast] will travel to Den Norske Opera in Oslo where 10 more shows are scheduled between February and March 2011.
Moreover, the production will appear on the 2011-2012 program of Semperoper in Dresden.

Et pendant ce temps-là à Bayreuth...

The end of the Festivals in Aix and in Munich is the sign that the Bayreuther Festspiele is just around the corner. It will open on July 25 (Sunday) with a new production of Lohengrin, which we can listen to via Radio BR-Klassik. The broadcast will begin at 4 pm (cet) on this link. Full information about the broadcast dates from Bayreuth and from Salzburg can be found here.

Stefan Herheim, Parsifal - rehearsal July 20, 2010

In Bayreuth the rehearsals are all over the place and everything is getting ready for the big Sunday opening. In particular the smashing production of Parsifal by Stefan Herheim will see its second revival (one of the best shows I've ever seen!) and a short video shot during a rehearsal can be found on this link.

Stefan Herheim's Tannhäuser - first pics

Yours Truly will try and go to the (outrageously expensive) city of Oslo to see the new Herheim's production of Tannhäuser, premiered last night at Den Norske Opera.

No news or reviews so far... Only a few sneak-pics from a Polish blogger in Oslo who we thank "Dziękuję Roberto!" [and yes, we thank Google Translate too, for letting us understand Polish & Norwegian ;)]

Opera Directors (and Conductors) in 2009

This was a great year, marked by some outstanding theatrical Opera productions. The stage directors made this art alive by providing a different or entirely new view on the works they directed. The theatrical brilliance, wittiness and ability to take us "beyond"... those guys deserve a huge THANKS from us, the operagoers and fans. I know that a top-5 list is petty, but hey! :)
The Top-5 opera directors who really made me love this art more or in a different way are:
