Hopefully some good new production comes around ;)Opera Cakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08940773671378765685noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2949086046279498177.post-72978375052990918402010-03-18T02:27:28.746+01:002010-03-18T02:27:28.746+01:00That second clip was actually the first Rameau I e...That second clip was actually the first Rameau I ever came across, in the middle of a documentary on Gluckian reform opera, as an example of what it was that Gluck was trying to reform, bless him.

Folly's aria remains a favourite - especially the concert version above - but all in all, I think I like Les Boréades* best. Act 4 of Zoroastre comes a close second, because there's nothing quite like a demon-worshipping lynch mob singing harmonies with Euclidian precision.

All of which made me dig out my copy of the 2002 Christie recording on Erato; I'd almost forgotten how much of a badass Rameau really was. Thanks, Opera Cake!

* The only full recording available on CD, I believe - featuring the late, great Philip Langridge.Bluehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05765133315113945907noreply@blogger.com
